Friends of Hudson River Park held its annual gala on May 25 at Chelsea Piers.?Ǭ The event drew a crowd of more than 500 as Friends honored James Ortenzio, the first chairman of the Hudson River Park Trust, and The Related Companies, which recently completed the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle. Friends’ mission is to advocate and provide sector funding for the new Hudson River Park, and at the gala, Friends presented Trust President Trip Dorkey with a check for $60,000 to help meet the costs of new facilities. The event raised more than $550,000 for Friends and featured performers and installations from chashama.

chashama is a non-profit organization founded and administered by artists. We support the development of art by awarding grants, producing work and providing subsidized studio, rehearsal and performance space. chashama is committed to presenting and creating art that engages the community of New York City.

Since opening, chashama has utilized vacant commercial buildings, transforming them into multi-arts complexes and filling them with art of all genres while drawing increasingly diverse audiences. They have produced and presented over 210 productions, 11 festivals and provided assistance to over 4,000 artists.

chashama has recently moved from five multi-arts complexes on 42nd Street all featuring gallery, office, studio rehearsal and performance space to a new venue on the East Side, 217 E.42nd St., where we continue to produce and present original, imaginative work with energetic and inspired artists. chashama has also added the third floor of the Food Court at 234 W.42nd Street and two floors at 40 Worth Street to their roster of venues.
