ART: Pre-Octopied

by SoHo Journal Staff

Cari Resurreccion is PREOCTOPIED around Soho and the Lower East Side. She has been documenting the work of an unknown graffiti artist whose cute, cartoon-like octopi has been proliferating on buildings, containers & billboards. Despite the best efforts of some business owners to paint over him, this tentacled fellow keeps on popping up. What started out as just one or two drawings is now on it’s way to becoming a SoHo phenomenon. Cari first noticed the pictures walking to and from work. Her fascination led her to photographing the octopi and to her creation of works of multi legged inspiration.

“The guys are funny and they cheer me up. I became intrigued by them and it got to the point where I was chasing them.” Cari recently turned some of her photos into a montage piece, on display at the Arena Studios Group Show through the 30th of June.
