Downtown turns out for Kerry who won New York’s primary

This past February, C. Virginia Fields took the lead in bringing together the people of Greenwich Village and SoHo for Presidential candidate John Kerry. The event was sponsored by Downtown Independent Democrats, the Village Reform Democratic Club and supported by C. Virginia Fields.

“I was overjoyed at the attendance and the outpouring of support for Senator John Kerry at last night’s event?╔é─ý” said Borough President Fields. She added, that?╔é─ý “Throughout his career in public service, John Kerry has fought tirelessly to secure the civil rights of all Americans. Because of his work to end workplace discrimination, eliminate racial profiling, and prosecute hate crimes, I believe Senator Kerry is committed to pursuing true equality.”

“Additionally,” she added, “John Kerry has demonstrated strong leadership in international affairs and I believe he can best fortify America’s national security. Without a doubt, he offers our party the best chance to unseat George Bush.”

There was an unexpectedly high turnout and the crowd rallied around the theme of this meeting, which was “working together to make our city a better place by ?╔Č┤Beating the Bush’.”

It was hosted to Panchito’s Mexican Restaurant on 103 MacDougal Street in the Village and many of downtown’s activists and politically savvy residents made an appearance to register their opinions on the candidate early on in the race. Kerry’s website is:
